Shinhwa - This Love

Earlier this year I saw a presentation about the history of K-pop, and although I already had been listening to this artist for years, I was surprised to learn that they are the longest-lasting boyband in Korea. When I thought about it, though, this made sense, because I’ve observed how most ultra-popular idol groups in Korea tend to be flash-in-the-pan successes, maintaining their popularity and contract integrity long enough to put out maybe 2 albums. These guys just put out their 11th album. This is a rare occurrence. I’m glad that these guys are the ones to have the title as longest-running boyband act, though, because they’re one of very few K-pop boybands that I like. This is one of their newest songs, because they’re STILL GOING!

This is the first song I heard by this popular Korean boy band. I saw the MV on a TV show for Korean MVs and when I saw the intro and Hyesung appeared I thought, "Ah, he must be the token pretty boy who is there because of his looks rather than talent." I was skeptical of the group as a whole at first, but as the song went on I observed, “Someone in this group has a GREAT voice. But which one is it?!” Then the solo part came up with the voice I was impressed by and when it showed Hyesung as the vocalist I was surprised. I don’t mind including the official music video this time because it’s how I first experienced the song as well as the artist, and I really like the weird twisting effect the camera does in this video.

This song is fairly catchy, but the real reason I had to post this was because of Eric's hilarious rap. I'm accustomed to hearing the Korean boy band rapper's cheesy English lyrics, but it really caught my attention when he suddenly starts swearing in Spanish. When I was listening to this song and noticed that the first time, I was like, "Did he just say what I think he said?!" and went back to replay it a bunch of times. Indeed, Eric raps a few lines in broken Spanish, including a part that basically means, "F*** your mother." Maybe he thought no one would notice? From a quick Googling of the lyrics, I found that most transcriptions skip over the Spanish lyrics for this song entirely, and on the one site I found that transcribed them at all, they were incorrect. So I guess no one DID notice. XD
