Tori Amos - Carnival

I keep finding out about more and more unlikely-seeming fans of this amazing artist. For example, recently I heard the pro-wrestler Mick Foley talk about how he got involved with RAINN because of his respect and admiration for her. Anyway, this song was used in the soundtrack of the movie Mission Impossible 2, apparently.

I *think* this song is about the process of growing up and losing innocence. Or maybe just being haunted by bad memories that serve no purpose but to bring you down.  It’s not exactly family-friendly and kind of intense, but it’s one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists from a musical perspective.  I'm always in awe of her piano work!

This glorrrrrrrious artist returns to this blog once again. This is one of my all-time favorite songs by this artist, along with the other songs I’ve posted by her. This is also one of the very few Tori songs I feel I understand. To the best of my interpretation abilities, it’s about how things change as you grow up, but how she always valued her relationship with her father. I used to play this song on the piano all the time.

Tori Amos - 1000 Oceans

It's kinda lame that I only got into this amazing artist years ago after I heard this song in a Naruto AMV, but oh well.  It was not the first Tori song I heard (which probably was "A Sorta Fairytale," since it was a single that was played on the radio), but I think it was the first one I heard that made me go, "Wow, this is beautiful.  I should look up more music by her!"  It's still one of my favorites by this artist.

I'm starting off the new month with one of my absolute favorite artists of all time.  This is one of my favorite songs by the genius that is Tori Amos.  She's known for having ridiculously opaque lyrics, but this is one of the few songs by her that I feel I actually understand the meaning of with relative ease.  In a word, nostalgia.  It's about longing for your childhood and realizing as an adult how precious the random, fleeting moments of your childhood were.
