Stefanie Sun - 天黑黑

Being an adult sucks. That’s the message of this song’s lyrics. It was brought to my attention when my friend sang it at karaoke recently, telling me the song is sad because it’s about how life is more complicated when you grow up. I noticed he was singing some of the lyrics in Hokkien—this is because the refrain of the song is taken from an old, popular Hokkien song. I can’t think of a song more fitting for today, climatewise and otherwise.

This artist was part of my recent push to catch up on Chinese-language artists’ most recent album releases after a gap of years from the previous album of theirs I listened to. I’m happy to say: she’s still got it! There’s something distinctive about this artist’s style, and she has that “singer/songwriter” vibe to her (which is an accurate vibe).

Time for another song by this Singaporean artist! I like the catchiness of this song. It has an element of distinctness that indicates her position as a songwriter.

Bringin’ this Singaporean artist back! This is the first song I heard by this singer/songwriter, and also one of the first Chinese songs in my music collection! It’s purdy.

This Singaporean artist's voice and singing style has always reminded me of someone else, and I've never been able to put my finger on whom.  But that's OK, because I like her voice, style, and music overall, and she's a talented artist in her own right.  This is one of my favorite songs by her, and you can find an English translation of the lyrics here.
