Marina & the Diamonds - Savages

I was recently in this artist’s homeland of Wales! This song was among my favorites on her new album because of its meaning. Even the most “civilized” of people can be barbaric because that’s what people are naturally like. Humans will be cruel given the opportunity or an excuse.

I’m currently in Wales, the homeland of this artist! I checked out her new album and this opening track was one of the strongest, in my opinion. Part of its appeal is its almost under-produced sound that doesn’t filter her voice, especially as compared with many other songs on the album.

I heard this song in an AMV that I saw yesterday at the anime convention I’ve been at this weekend. I heard of this artist right when she first debuted, through the music video for her first single "Mowgli’s Road," but didn’t care for it. I’m glad that since then I’ve heard a number of songs by her that are much more to my liking.

Marina & the Diamonds - Fear & Loathing

When I heard music by this artist a while ago, I didn’t care for her sound. But I heard this song on the British soap opera Hollyoaks the other day and thought it was nice. Also, note that she, like Florence + the Machine, has a stage name that deceptively appends a band-sounding title to the singer’s first name, giving the impression that it consists of a band of people when in fact it’s just one talented woman. Man, UK female artists are owning lately…
