I encountered this song some years ago when I was watching the Vietnamese film Three Seasons, and the song was featured repeatedly throughout the film. The song was written decades ago by one of Vietnam’s most famous songwriters, Phạm Duy, who died just a few months ago. There were numerous covers of the song to choose from, but I picked a relatively recent one.
